Working with Alex on multiple occasions has been so great! She’s a perfect combination of fun and professional. Alex is incredibly creative and manages to carry out the visions in her head so easily. I have always appreciated how she manages a photoshoot, giving directions and lots of information for those of us who have no idea what we’re doing. Alex also did a great job working with my kids who are completely unpredictable. She was patient with them and was able to get them to cooperate with ease. I can’t wait to work with Alex again many times in the future and for a variety of events.
Alex is both scheduled but spontaneous, relaxed but professional. She will give you ridiculous direction with a mischievous trickery that results in pictures you would never have thought to add to a list of “must-have” shots. She takes direction and feedback as well as she gives it, always operating with your best interest at heart. If I could convince Alex to follow me around all day, I’d never take another “selfie,” because she has the ability to take the right angle in the right light and make you look like you are not just fully expressing your whole self, but enjoying the experience.
Alex is the most competent, reliable, respectful photographer, who knows exactly when and how it is appropriate to have a really good time. She finds a creative balance between work and play that can only be explained by the fact that she has learned how not to just experience each moment in its present, fleeting tense, but to lasso it for future reflection through her camera’s lens. It is this kind of artistic mastery, the kind that is whole-hearted and unassuming, that makes each image glow with such ferocity that it encompasses the viewer as if she had witnessed the scene first-hand.
Who better to capture any precious moment than a young woman who sees everything in the doe-eyed mist of magic hour? In looking at Alex’s photos, seeing now what she saw then through a viewfinder, it is eminently clear that Alex is in love with the world in all its detail. And we are so honoured and grateful to have been at her focus and epicenter for one glorious day.
Taking family pictures is both exciting and terrifying. You have a picture in your head of how gorgeous your kids are going to be, but you also know that their best days are never when the photographer is there.
So – this is where the magic of Alex Neary comes in. I had a few ideas for a Christmas card and she was game for all of them. She made me feel super creative because she was so excited about all of my crazy ideas and she came ready with wreaths, decorations and the most incredible attitude.
My kids, of course, did not cooperate. In some pictures my son is holding a chip in one hand – but you wouldn’t know it.
At one point during the shoot I left to get something. The crying stopped. My husband told me to wait until Alex called us back because she had them both wrapped around her little finger. It was amazing.
A few days later I got the pictures. I cried.
She captured my kids. She got their beauty, their humour, and their joyous loving spirit. My Christmas card is magical. I got more phone calls thanking me for sending out such a piece of joy. Alex Neary did that.
We couldn’t be happier with Alex’s lovely photos of our wedding day! Photography was in our ‘top 3’ priorities while wedding planning, but we didn’t want photos that looked too staged or ‘posed’. We also didn’t want hundreds of photos of just the two of us – we also wanted our photographer to capture special moments among our wonderful family and friends throughout the day.
We found Alex’s work online and soon after set up a get-together. Alex was extremely interested in truly getting to know us, and listening to our own photography wishes. In our engagement photos and our wedding day photos she captured both intimate and hilarious moments. She was able to paint our wedding day into a beautiful story of photos and we’re so glad we were able to work with her!!!
Alex is a lovely person inside and out. She’s funny, warm, focused, confident, flexible, and so helpful! She’s stylish and friendly, and her photography work is gorgeous (and fun loving – we loved that). In the end, we’re both so pleased that we had engagement photos and wedding photos done by Alex. She’s both relaxed and detailed in her work. Best of all, she’s got an amazing eye and instinct for beauty. You’ll see… just take a look at her work!
Alex is one of the most talented people we know. We are lucky to have had her capture all of our major life events to date including our engagement, wedding, pregnancy, newborn and family portraits. The photos we get from our sessions with Alex are so much more than a picture; they are real memories and special moments. She takes the time to make everyone feel comfortable and ready to just have fun in front of her camera, which creates natural and genuine images. I get lost in her blog and Instagram feed because I just love looking at pictures she’s taken on her travels or of other events/couples/families/pets. We can’t wait for our next shoot!
Alex Neary of Wild Eyed Photography was easily the best wedding decision we made. We are nerdy and generally not photogenic, and were nervous about how wedding photos would turn out. Alex was a godsend. Her photos were artistic and yet really real. She somehow made us look like the best versions of ourselves while still faithfully capturing our personality. The photos are not just beautiful, but when I look at them, the joy jumps off the image. When we looked through our photos, we kept saying to each other “Wow, this one is amazing!” at each one! Every time I look at a photo, it matches the slightly golden-hued memory I have in my mind. We also really wanted lots of pictures of our loved ones laughing, dancing, and enjoying being together, and were overjoyed with all the moments we didn’t see that day, but were able to relive with the pictures.
In addition to taking the best photos of us and our family and friends that we have ever had, Alex was a delight to have as a part of the process. She was easy to work with, flexible, responsive, on top of arrangements, and willing to work with the photography restrictions of our church. It felt like she was just our friend coming in from Toronto. Furthermore, my mom loved her, and that is some sincere compliment right there!
Do yourself a favor, hire Alex as your photographer and don’t waste any more time worrying about photos. We are so lucky to have such wonderful photos to remember our wedding day, and we will treasure them forever.
When you’re planning a wedding, it’s easy to get caught up in the crazy expenses and the chaos of organizing such an important event. But honestly, one of the best decisions we made was hiring Alex to take our photos. Amidst all the crazy of that day, she managed to capture the most incredible moments. And not just between Brendan and I, but between our family and friends–moments we never would have seen and enjoyed without these amazing photos. Even during our engagement session, she made every photo look completely natural, unposed and beautifully candid. So we didn’t hesitate to call her when we hit our next milestone: our first family shoot with our new son. Alex does more than take photos; she captures the emotion of a time you want so badly to remember later on. Everything goes by so quickly, especially with a baby, so we’ll cherish these photos forever.
Emmett and I hired Alex to shoot our wedding last summer, and we chose her because she has a great eye for genuine emotion and interactions between people. That quality, I think, is surprisingly rare among wedding photographers. With traditional wedding photography, the emotions can look strained, the poses often feel forced, the whole vibe bears so little resemblance to how the bride and groom probably lead their actual lives. It was important to us to avoid that kind of fakery and schmaltz, while still capturing all the love and excitement of the day. If you’re looking to capture all the best parts of your wedding day – looking and feeling great while being so in love – without the cheese, Alex is your girl.
Alex was also a dream to work with – chilled out, reliable, omnipresent at the wedding and all its wonderful moments without being obtrusive. She happily accommodated our desire to do our wedding photos a bit differently – skipping getting-ready shots so we could instead focus on late night dance floor pics, for instance. But she also got us to do some things – lots of laughing, jumping, and playing shots – that I would never have previously considered, yet the resulting photos are some of my favorites.
Looking back, hiring Alex was one of the two best and most important decisions Emmett and I made as we planned our wedding – the other was the open bar. Make the day fun, and then get Alex to document it for you.
When we first hired Alex she had just started Wild Eyed Photography. Being so early in her career she did not have a huge portfolio, but it was clear to us that she had a unique talent for capturing life’s most important moments. Alex has captured our engagement, wedding, first pregnancy and infant daughter and each time we have been thrilled with our photos. Alex is especially great with children and we can’t wait to have her document our family over the years to come!
Hats off to Alex because holy moly, did our wedding throw her a ton of curve balls! Alex managed to take a torrential downpour, 25 roaming farm animals, a whole lot of goat poop, a flustered bride and a soggy groom, and turn it all into the most dreamy, atmospheric, stunning photos we could have imagined. Her vision and excitement comforted us when everything seemed to be going wrong. Her confidence in her craft made us calm and relaxed, which shone through in our shots. The pictures felt so much like us, and so candidly captured our goofy, giddy love.
In the busyness of the day, we forgot to stop and soak in the special moments of our wedding. Alex snapped all of those details and so many more, which is the best gift we could have received. She is a true talent with a keen eye and an honest interest in making your memories as vivid, beautiful and unique to you as possible. Thank you Wild Eyed Photography for being a part of our wedding. It would not have been the same without you!

Alex made our family photo session fun and effortless on our part. She was able to capture all of our personalities on film all while keeping our small children entertained and engaged. We love every single photo that Alex delivered and are so thankful that we have that moment in our lives documented for us to always look back on and cherish.
To say we’re delighted with Wild Eyed Photography would be the understatement of the century.
Working with Alex – the creative tour de force behind Wild Eyed Photography – is awesome, as in inspiring awe. Not only she is a true professional, but she’s kind, easy-going and empathetic. These qualities can be hard to find in one person – let alone one wedding photographer – but they are essential when it comes to trusting someone to capture one of the most important days of your life. Alex gets the shots without being intrusive, and she helps you to feel comfortable. What’s more, she’s also a beacon of calm in an otherwise pretty crazy day!
Alex hears what you ask for, but she also goes above and beyond that; she hears the meaning behind your words. We asked for photojournalistic-style photos with a fine art touch, and boy, did she deliver! Alex not only captured amazing moments, she caught feelings. It’s our belief that anyone can learn to use a camera and take photos, but it takes a very special person to actually invest themselves in someone else’s life: The happiness, the joy, the mundane and sometimes the sad. And she presents it all in a way that makes you proud.
We had actually hired Alex to do our engagement photos when we were visiting Toronto in February of 2011. We spotted her blog and after e-mailing back & forth for a while, we hired her on a whim. After completely loving our experience with her & being blown away by our engagement photos, we never quite forgot about Alex. After settling on a Vancouver wedding, we thought maybe – just maybe – Alex would be willing to make the cross-country trip to photograph our wedding. She was more than willing, and we were ecstatic!
She was with us the entire day of the wedding – from (very) early morning hair appointments to late-night shots on Granville Island. Alex worked so hard for us, but I have to admit we didn’t realize how hard she had worked until we saw her photos. She had truly been everywhere – in every nook and cranny – capturing those shots that will help us remember our wedding day both honestly and beautifully for years to come. We couldn’t ask for more.
From the bottom of our hearts, we implore you to hire Wild Eyed Photography for your wedding, engagement… or just about anything else! Alex will get it right, and her professionalism & kindness will make all the difference. You won’t regret it.
As new parents, we have approximately 82,000 pictures of our little guy on our phones, but the photos Alex has taken hold a special spot in our hearts. She manages to capture our little family in the best possible light, and made it easy by being flexible, easy-going, full of ideas, but open to suggestion if we had ideas of our own. Our two sessions with her have given us memories that we will treasure long into our son’s gangly, awkward teenage years.
We met Alex for the first time seven years ago when we were looking for a photographer to shoot our wedding. When we originally spoke to her, she had never shot a wedding before, but had an amazing portfolio of art shots. We felt confident in her creative eye and decided it was more important to go with someone who shared our creative vision than others who might have more wedding experience. It was a good decision. Alex took the most astoundingly beautiful wedding photos for us, and since that time has also captured our engagement photos, a gift for the groom boudoir shoot, as well as photos of our newborn daughter. When I speak to people about Alex, I refer to her as “my photographer,” because in my mind she has a client in us for life. She has the rare and unique ability to capture magic and bottle it. It also serves as a relief to know that you can trust her with your most sacred life memories and know they will be given respect, dignity and truth. She treats her subjects like family, and leaves a bit of her soul aloft with each photo. What she does is nothing short of special, and I would recommend her to anyone (and have already many, many times). I look forward to the memories to come that Alex will undoubtedly capture and bottle for us, so we will never have to forget.
We are so grateful for connecting and working with Alex on our Fairytale Wedding in Harbour Island, Bahamas. Alex had the perfect balance of guidance and positivity during our initial meetings in Toronto and we knew she would be the perfect fit for our Bahamian wedding.
During our wedding week Alex was unobtrusive, creative, fun and game for anything, exactly what we needed! She was able to capture every special moment of our wedding and took so many beautiful pictures without pulling us away from our day.
Thank you Alex, you captured ‘us’ perfectly.
The incredible talent that Alex shows in every photo shoot we have been lucky enough to do with her, is the reason we keep going back to her. She has captured some of the most special moments in my life and we still cherish these photos today. She shot our engagement photos, my pregnancy, and our baby boy at 7 weeks old. In what can sometimes feel like an awkward and nervous situation, Alex has always broken the ice quickly, and made us feel so comfortable. It never felt staged or posed and this shows in the photographs. She has such a special way of capturing life’s moments and memories as they are. We are looking forward to having Alex capture the next milestone in our lives. I couldn’t recommend her enough. Thank you Alex!
