I know that almost all wedding photographers will agree with me when I say that I love an intimate garden wedding. When Kate and Ruth approached me to document their intimate garden wedding at Edwards Gardens in Toronto, I jumped at the chance! All weddings are special, don’t get me wrong. But when there is a guest count under 20 there is something extra special. I have had the opportunity to document a few other intimate weddings and I hope to capture more! Elise and Brandon had an intimate wedding at the Rectory cafe on Ward’s Island and it was so wonderful.

Kate and Ruth planned a Jewish ceremony in the middle of Edwards Gardens. They were surrounded by their immediate family members as well as their best friends. Not to mention, the early summer flowers and chirping birds helped set the tone. The energy of love in the air was almost palpable. The rabbi who married them is a singing rabbi and she had such a beautiful voice! One part of the Jewish ceremony is the singing of the Ketubah. I always enjoy seeing what design a couple chooses.

One of my favourite memories from their day was when we did their first look. Both Kate and Ruth had no idea what the other was wearing. When they saw each other for the first time, they were both so surprised that they had chosen such similar dresses! When they walked hand in hand together down the aisle, their guests were also surprised with how similar their dresses were.

After their ceremony, we walked around the gardens together creating beautiful portraits. We certainly took advantage of the gorgeous grounds in Edwards Gardens and we were lucky that it wasn’t very busy! Kate and Ruth’s intimate garden wedding was such an honour to document.
