I have captured a Hotel Ocho wedding before, but Jon and Jen’s wedding was something else! These two are the definition of fun and care free. When they initially approached me to document their Hotel Ocho Wedding, I crossed all of my fingers and toes that I would be their photographer.
Jon and Jen decided that they were going to get tattoos instead of exchange rings. But this presented a bit of a problem. What will they do at the ceremony? Have no fear! Ring Pops are here. No seriously, they exchanged ring pop candies and it was the freaking best! They also had their best friend officiate the ceremony and this is one of my favourite trends to emerge. Instead of hiring an official officiant, many couples are having a close family member or friend marry them. It allows the ceremony to be so much more personal and touching (and very funny) because that persons knows you. They know your stories, they know you as a couple and they know what you’re all about. Often times leading to a hilarious yet incredibly emotional wedding ceremony.
They also decided to forgo an official wedding party for their Hotel Ocho Wedding. This is another trend that I’m loving. If you’re having a hard time choosing who will be your bridesmaids and groomsmen, guess what? You don’t have to have them. You don’t haaaaave to have a wedding party! As a wedding photographer, I love it. It allows me and the couple to spend more time doing their portraits. Jon and Jen were very nervous about being in front of the camera. They told me more times than I can count, ‘we’re so awkward!’ But if you take a look below, they were so NOT awkward. They were fun and silly and totally down for all of the weird things I threw at them.
Can we also give a shoutout to Jen’s dress? She designed it and had a seamstress make it for her. How cool is that? Having a hard time finding the dress you want? Or are you shocked at the price of dresses? Don’t worry. Find a seamstress, tell her what you want and she’ll help you out! Here is another wedding where the bride designed her dress and had it made exactly how she wanted.
I could write all day about how much I loved this Hotel Ocho wedding! I seriously could.
Instead I will leave you with their photos.
One of my all time favourite moments at a wedding was this one. Jon and his friends had prepared a choreographed dance to Pony by Ginuwine.
